ESCORTS
A quick look through the various modeling and photography forums reveals quite a number of discussions relating to escorts. Some models require them, some don't. Some photographers permit them, some don't. This topic always seems to bring out hundreds of opinions, with no real consensus. With that in mind, you should know my thoughts on escorts up front.
Those that frequent the forums like to bring up criminal cases where a model was attacked by a fake photographer, or they talk about cases where it was the photographer that was attacked by an escort. The chances of encountering either situation are extremely remote.
There is an old saying, "Trust is a
two-way street." How is a photographer supposed to react when a model refuses to trust them at all, yet REQUIRES that they trust some unknown escort? By the time we get together for a shoot, a model knows my name, home address, phone number, and other pertinent information. I will know some basic information about the model as well. I can verify their identity and check any references. I will also know their phone number and email address at the very least. The escort is an unknown with zero references. |
|
Considering the above listed items, I have a fairly simple escort policy that should work for everyone concerned except for escorts that just want to watch...
Models under 18: May always bring a parent or legal guardian with them to a shoot. A friend/boyfriend/other is not acceptable.
Models 18 or over: Escorts are permitted during the shoot, but there are four conditions that will apply.
ESCORT REQUIREMENTS | |
1) No later than 24 hours BEFORE a scheduled shoot, I require an emailed or faxed copy of the escort's driver's license or state issued ID card. If I do not receive this information, I will assume that the model does not wish to have an escort for the shoot. If I have already received the escort's information from a previous shoot, I do not need it again.
2) The escort is just that - an escort. They are not observers, consultants, or students. They will refrain from talking, asking questions, giving opinions or advice, and distracting anyone involved during the shoot.
3) The escort will be seated where they will not have eye contact with the model. An escort's only real purpose is to watch the photographer, NOT watch the model. This also serves to prevent distractions caused by their presence in the studio.
4) If the escort chooses to ignore these conditions, they are welcome to leave or the shoot will be terminated.
All Models: There are some other people that I do not consider to fit under the category of an escort. Some examples of non-escorts are:
1. An assistant if you are physically disabled and need special care.
2. A translator if you do not speak English.
3. A MUA, Stylist, etc, required for the shoot.
4. Another model that is willing to participate in the shoot.
A model should always do their homework. Some example of this are:
Check out a potential photographer's work and references.
Check their website and contact information. If they don't have a website, consider this: Current prices for Web hosting is less than $4.00 per month.
If their email address is from something like Yahoo or Gmail, be a little more suspicious and check other things until you can prove to yourself that they are legitimate.
Make sure a trusted friend knows all of this information and the shooting schedule.
I look forward to working with you... |
